Chapter 14 – Nico

I watched Arianna’s face as we walked up the dock to where my yacht was waiting for us, anticipating what her reaction would be.

I had made plans to take her away for a makeup honeymoon a few days ago, deciding that regardless of what her test said, we’d get away for a while.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t both relieved and disappointed that my wife wasn’t pregnant yet. Part of me wanted to start building my family, sooner rather than later. While the other part of me wanted to do it the right way. In a way that didn’t involve lies and force.

Even if I didn’t know any other way to do anything.

I was willing to try.

“Wow,” She whispered, taking in the sight of the vessel all lit up in the night sky.

“Like it?” I asked, anxious for her response.

“It’s incredible.”

“It’s bigger than your father’s,” I said, hating the way I was trying to impress her with my possessions.

She shrugged, sliding her hand into mine when I offered it to her to help her up onto the walkway. “I wouldn’t know, I didn’t even know he had one.”

I followed her onto the ship where the captain, boson, and chief stew waited for us. “Good evening, Mr. Capasso,” my captain said before taking my wife’s hand and shaking it, “Mrs. Capasso, my name is Reck and I’ll be your captain for the duration of the trip. He turned and introduced Martin, the boson, and Cher, the chief stew.

There were others on board, but only the most elite from each department would have much to do with us. That was the only way to make sure the standard of service I expected was met, time in and time out on board.

I watched as Arianna charmed them all, accepting their greetings and giving her own like the perfect wife of the Don and pride swelled in my chest.

“When do we depart?” I asked, drawing everyone’s attention away from my charming wife.

“In the morning,” Rex confirmed, “At first light, we’ll disembark and start your journey through the sea.”

“Perfect,” I turned to Cher, “We’ll take our meal in the sky lounge tonight.” I slid my hands over Arianna’s shoulder and led her deeper into the elegant saloon, “It’s getting cold out.”

“Very well, Mr. Capasso,” Cher bowed, “I’ll have the chef prepare your meals now. Your rooms are ready.”

“Thank you,” Arianna called as I ushered her toward the stairwell to my private quarters. “Is this all ours?” She asked, walking down the hallway to the main bedroom door.

“Yes, there are only three other bedrooms on board besides the crew cabins.”

“That seems less than I would expect on a boat this size,” She mused.

“It is,” I affirmed, “I don’t often invite others with me to the sea. If I don’t have empty bedrooms, it makes it easy to leave them all behind.”

“And what do you do when you are at sea?”

“Work, mostly,” I admitted as we walked into our bedroom. “I rarely take time off.
